Hello everybody, I'm here again to talk a little something about Mexico. Today I want to tell you about the mexican flag. Do you know it? Can you recognize it? How many colors does it have? What does it have in the center?
The Flag of Mexico is a rectangle with three vertical stripes: green, white and red with the national coat of arms in the center of the white stripe. Over the last 200 years, since the independence of Mexico, there have been four different designs for the Mexican Flag. The current national flag was adopted on September 16, 1968 and in Mexico we commemorate the Day of the Mexican Flag every February 24th.
But, what is the meaning of each color? Green means hope, white is union and red represents the blood of the national heroes.
And what about the coat of arms in the center? It portrays an eagle, holding a serpent in its talon, perched on the top of a prickly pear cactus with is placed on a rock in the middle of a lake.
It symbolizes the Aztec heritage. According to the legend Aztecs had embark on the searching for a place to set up and found a new city. The god Huitzilopochtli (ウィツィロポチトリ) advised them that the place where they should establish their city was to be identified when they saw an eagle on a nopal (cactus) eating a serpent. After 200 years of looking for it they found the mythical eagle on a little island in the middle of Texcoco Lake (テスココ) and this place is where now Mexico City is located.
Is a common mistake to think that Mexican an Italian flag are the same just with or without the Mexican coat of arms. Even that they use the same colors green and red in Mexican Flag are darker. Another difference is the proportion. The Italian flag is more squarish in shape, while the Mexican flag has a longer shape.

ところで、みなさん、メキシコの旗、どんなかんじかわかりますか？色は何色？真ん中には何が描かれてるー？？？わかるかなー？？
メキシコの旗は白、赤、緑の縦三色の中央に国家紋章を描いたものです。200年以上メキシコが独立して以来200年 にわたって4種類のデザインのメキシコの旗がありました。現在の国旗は1968年9月16日に制定されました。 2月24日は毎年メキシコの国旗を祝う日となりました。
旗のそれぞれの色はどういった意味があると思いますか？緑は希望、白は統一 そして赤は英雄の血を表しています。
真ん中に描かれた紋章はどういった意味があるのでしょうか？それは、アステカの民が首都をきめるためにウィツィポチトリ神の神託により「サボテンの上に日々を食らう鷲がいる土地」をさがしてさまよった伝説に由来するそうです。アステカの民はテスココ湖で神託どおりの土地を発見し、現在のメキシコシティを建設したそうですよ♪
真ん中に国家紋章があるかないかだけでイタリアの旗とよく似ていているけど、メキシコの旗のほうは濃い赤と緑をつかっています。また大きさの比率もちがいます。
