Carnaval is a huge event in Brazil, and the main celebration in their year. It takes place 40 days before Easter, and usually lasts for about a week. The most famous Carnaval takes place in Rio de Janeiro, but the biggest is in Recife called galo da madrugada, and maybe the most exciting is in Salvador. In fact every city or town has its own Carnaval, each with its own regional style. I spent 4 Carnavals in Brazil, and for me the best was in Oilinda, a town next to Recife. Tonight we 're going to have a carnaval in recife, so come dance and have fun.



カーニバルはブラジル最大のイベント！！
イースター前、40日間も続く「レント（受難節）」に備えて、心置きなく羽目を外ずそう！というイベントみたいです♪

受難節は、復活祭を迎える前の準備と悔い改めの期間の時期。
みんなそれぞれ、禁酒だったり、たばこやめたり、断食したりしておごそかに過ごす時期・・・。
なのでその前のカーニバルには熱の入りようもちょっとちがうわけです！！

一番有名なのがリオでのカーニバル。でも一番最大の参加者人数のイベントはgalo da madrugadaとよばれる、ブラジル、レシフェで開催されるカーニバルです。
そして一番エキサイティングなのはSalvadorで開催されるカーニバルです。

ブラジルではそれぞれの街ごとにカーニバルが開催され、それぞれの街ごとで特徴がちがうそうです！

私は4つのカーニバルに参加したことがありますが、レシフェの隣町、Oilindaでのカーニバルがいちばん楽しかった！！

as you may or may or may not know, Recife the city in Brazil is a meca for alternative music.
In the mid nineties as a revoke to imminent spread of american culture, and the increasing banality of the national pop scene, the people of recife went back to there roots, and the roots of music.

The young musicians took beats and rhythms from the local MARACATU and samba, added bass lines and spiraling guitars and created a wave of music called mangue beat.

There were several characters and bands central to this scene, all of which i will introduce in later weeks, but for now its Otto. Otto comes from the Recife music scene, he was the percussionist in various bands before launching his solo career. His sound is truely electro brasil, mixing samba with synths, his first album was a huge success "samba pra burro"...and this is his first single bob ...quality stuff. the french lyrics were written by a great friend of mine.

もうご存知の方も多いいかと思いますが
お店の名前レシフェ　recife はブラジルにある都市の名前でオルタナティブ音楽で有名な街です。
90年代中期、アメリカからの文化が入ってきました。
音楽がどこも同じで、ポップになりすぎちゃって面白くなくなってきそうだったので
レシフェのミュージシャンは彼らの音楽のルーツに戻りました。

レシフェのミュージシャンたちは、彼らのルーツである、サンバやMaracatu(マラカトゥ、音楽のスタイル）　のリズムからビートをとりいれ、ベースラインやギターを加え　Mangue Beat(マンギービート）というオリジナルスタイルを確立しました。

いろんなバンドがこの時期に登場しました。
その中のバンドからおすすめを紹介していこうと思います。

今週はOtto　【オットー】
Ottoはレシフェミュージックシーンからうまれ、様々なバンドでパーカッションとしての経験を経てソロデビュー。
彼の音楽はサンバとシンセサイザーをミックスされたエレクトロブラジリアンミュージックです。
ファーストアルバム　samba pra burroは大成功！！
ちなみに、ファーストシングルのbob のフランス語の歌詞は私の大切な友人が手がけました。

hello recife friends,
every thursday i' m going to write about a band, dj or type of music i like. this week its a band i just can' t stop listening to at the moment... Fat Freddy's Drop. Fat Freddy's Drop are a seven-piece roots, dub, reggae, jazz, soul band from Wellington, New Zealand. Formed in the late 1990's around Wellington's small, close-knit music scene, the group's current and former members continued to play with other bands during much of their history. Fat Freddy's Drop is known for their live performances —improvised jam sessions. Songs appearing on their albums are gradually put together during several years of performances while touring.
There is something about the music that is immediately attrcative but also has a long lasting appeal...great bass lines, beautiful harmonies and hooks.
